the thing i don't get is people being like "this is the perfect holiday" as though it's difficult to grill and drink beer with your friends any other day

everyone always wants to do that
Related: New Year's Day is a federal holiday because society mainstreamed alcoholism
I also say the above as someone who has benefited from these federal holidays also being paid holidays because hell yes, being paid to not come into work kicks ass
say what you want about easter but at least with holidays like that you color eggs and hunt for them in a yard and shit, stuff you decidedly do not usually do. sitting around drinking and grilling is just the weekend man, you don't need to do that in the larger context of celebrating the united states of america.
Yeah but drinking beer + grilling on a day when you're supposed to be at work is 100% more fun than doing it on a weekend, and without a federal holiday it's hard to convince enough people to play hookey on any given day to make it worth the effort.
really dislike fireworks. i don’t understand how they are popular. they are the same thing over and over and then a bunch all at once for the finale??? so stupid. they’re so disruptive, too. like, everyone has to see your little fireworks thing? how is that legal anywhere???

i mean getting loose with a couple beers and having a nice secluded place to watch a pro show once a year is cool. the neighborhood wanna bes are what ruin the weekend

fireworks become more relatable and profound the drunker you get
we're gonna drive to a sunflower field in the middle of nowhere on saturday then eat pizza and drink tequila in a small town park, then go to a drive though brunch with gaint bloody marys in to go cups on sunday
last year the field looked like this on the 4th.

best way to celebrate this great day is to put “no no no, not god bless america, god DAMN america” on loop and kick back and ruminate on american atrocities
